The 2008 Cadillac CTS is powerful enough to blow any vehicle on the road out of the water. The steeply raked windshield and taillight give the 2008 CTS a coupe-like feel, with a stout, powerful stance. More pronounced wheel arches merge with a sharply chiseled waistline, giving the new CTS a lot of "edge," both literally and figuratively.

The standard model 2008 Cadillac CTS will have a 3.6-liter with 263hp. Also available is the 3.6L direct injection V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, delivering a projected 304 hp and 270 lb.-ft of torque. That’ll be enough to compete side-by-side with the Lexus IS 350 and the BMW 3 Series. Also included for the first time is a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, but the best news of all may well be the upgrade in transmission: Borrowed from the SRX crossover that shares its platform, the all-wheel-drive system in the newly designed 2008 CTS uses an active transfer case to send power to the front wheels when the rear wheels lose their grip. Rear-wheel drive will be standard.

What it Looks Like?

The Cadillac CTS is more angular and it actually looks bigger, broader and bolder than before. The CTS looks good with a little age on it, thanks to a wider track, lower hood and smoother fenders. Also new are 17-inch wheels or available nine-spoke, 18-inch wheels, with larger brake calipers and rotors which allow you to have more options. Although the new CTS rides on the same basic chassis as before, GM added 1.8 inches of track width in front and 2 inches in back. The wheelbase remains the same while the car's length and height are both up an inch and a half.

The 2008 Cadillac CTS no longer has just the moonroof. The new 08 CTS now has an Ultraview which Includes double-sized power glass sunroof with express open, tilt-slide and power sunshade so that all passengers can enjoy the nice view.

What’s Inside?

The 2008 Cadillac CTS changes are so unique starting with hand-stitched leather seating and door panel surfaces make the. A quick inspection inside showed close gaps and much better interior features, from leather to soft surfaces which really makes the newly redesigned interior top notch. Highlights include unique wood grain, standard heated seats, more supportive seat bolsters and white ambient lighting. One exceptional feature unique to the CTS is the ability to pause and play radio stations. Similar to a TiVo, you can hit the pause button while listening to a radio station and the car will store up to 60 minutes of audio. Instead of waiting for your favorite song to finish before going into a store, you can just hit pause, do your shopping, and come back to it when you get in the car. The 2008 CTS comes with an eight-speaker Bose system, including centerfill and subwoofer. Or you can upgrade to a 10-speaker Bose system with 5.1 surround sound. you can upgrade to a 10-speaker Bose system with 5.1 surround sound.

The navigation system is also first-rate, incorporating a complete points-of-interest database with just about any destination you could think of. It has an optional touchscreen navigation screen that rises from the dash at the touch of a button. It also gets XM live traffic reporting  reporting, showing traffic flow, signs and incidents for most U.S. metropolises. Live traffic reporting is integrated with the navigation, and will advise you of slow traffic along your route. Better yet, if you're driving along a major road without route guidance, it will still tell you about incidents up ahead.

What Cadillac Says?

In a tender moment at an otherwise racous Auto Show, General Motors showed what it takes to build a car by asking the design and engineering teams responsible for the 2008 CTS to come up and talk about what they did to improve the sedan. For about 10 minutes, one team leader after another stood on stage, flanked by his or her people, and spoke with pride about the team's role in developing what GM hopes will be a landmark revision. In this cynical world of cars and marketing metal, it was inspiring to see on stage the very reason why we are here and what makes all this madness worthwhile.
